Could it have been possible that they simple were civilians, protecting their city against the Rebels invasion? I would be surprised to see much joy in Tripoli. I don't think the people will easily forget the many months of bombardment by the Rebel's friends of NATO. The Rebels could have stopped the killings and bombings, but they refused any peacetalks with the government, since they felt superior with the backing of the warplanes of NATO. We just have to see if the Transitional NATO Council can make Libya as good as it was under Gaddafi. A lot of beneficiary projects might already be canceled due to the thievery by NATO-countries of the Libyan assets (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYs_LrS_3YE) Original video found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5I0wUqFo24

The UN has stopped all flights in and out of Libya and, during a seven hour wait to board the ferry to Malta, tempers flare. Despite these hardships Libya prospers. A Libyan official speaks frankly about his leader and admits mistakes have been made. He expresses regret for Libya’s backing of the IRA and says it was revenge for Britain’s part in the 1986 raid on Tripoli. We visit Gaddafi’'s bombed house - an eerie shrine to his daughter who died in that attack. Human rights abuses are detailed by a former university lecturer in Libya. He talks of lynchings in the university grounds. This film challenges the West’s view of Libya and looks at Gaddafi’s struggles both at home and abroad. Modern Tripoli is undergoing constant development. Contemporary architecture is everywhere with skyscrapers that contain offices and apartments that have been built on the periphery of the city. Around seventy kilometres west of Tripoli and also located on the Mediterranean coast are the remains of the ancient trading town of Sabratha. Its Theatre has been rebuilt and is still an impressive structure that dates back to the second century A.D. Tripoli, along with the historic towns of the former Tripolitania, is one of the most spectacular places of ancient culture in North Africa and the heritage of an advanced civilisation located on the edge of the Sahara.

Woman in military uniform taking photos STORYLINE: Tripoli appeared calm on Tuesday night and residents were out shopping after breaking their fast for Ramadan, despite fighting between forces loyal to embattled Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and rebels continuing in other parts of the country. Footage filmed under strict supervision of the Libyan government showed traffic in Tripoli''s Green Square and people shopping. Fattah Abdullah, a resident in Tripoli, said that people were living life as normal. "We do not care about the NATO anymore, we are living as we were before, we live, we do shopping, we do everything, actually we do not care anymore," Abdullah said. Another resident, Ammar Ali, also said that the situation was "normal". "Despite of the continuous bombing of NATO every night, people are out on the streets, we cannot find the words to express how people are getting out on the streets to shop during Ramadan, the situation is normal," Ali said. Meanwhile, heavy fighting was taking place for control of the strategic city of Zawiya, just 30 miles (48 kilometres) west of Tripoli between opposition fighters and government forces loyal to Gadhafi, where the rebels were trying to cut supply routes between Tunisia and Tripoli. The routes are critical for moving food, fuel and weapons over land to the capital. With NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) imposing a no-fly zone over Libya for months and bombarding regime targets, the coastal road has become a lifeline between the capital and the outside world. The eastern half of the country is now firmly in rebel control, with a transitional leadership based in the de facto capital of Benghazi. The east''s main front line is at the strategic oil terminal of Brega, where trucks carrying rebel anti-Gadhafi forces entered on Tuesday. Brega has passed back and forth many times between rebel and regime control. Brega is nearly 500 miles (800 kilometres) west of Zawiya. Despite the United Nation's eventual intervention, most of Liberia's young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust.
